The catalogue «THE FAMILY - The constant is change»

The catalogue is an ideal complement to an exhibition visit, offering further details about the subjects discussed.
Further study material is provided in the catalogue. This falls into three parts. In the first part various contributions investigate the theme and structure of the exhibition. Besides the prologue and the family portraits by Nicole Aschwanden there are essays by Remo H. Largo on children, François de Capitani on science, Thomas Binotto on philosophy and Bettina Köhler on styles of living. The second part contains articles by the authors of the national research programme (NFP52): Pasqualina Perrig-Chiello concentrates on demographic change and its influence on the form and process of family life, François Höpflinger discusses questions regarding the current relations between the generations, and inter-generational solidarity, Heide Stutz examines the economic consequences of a changed pattern of inheritance and Laura Wehr focusses on the time the family spends together, and the problems of the Sunday family walk. In the third part of the catalogue Andrea Maihofer reviews the changes currently taking place in the family. She frequently refers back to history and demonstrates that today not all forms of family are new, but also that they are never just a repetition, which exactly corresponds to the title of the exhibition: "The family - the constant is change". The catalogue is richly illustrated. Most of the articles are translated into French, Italian and English, or else summarised in each of these three languages.
